5 Things I Understand

1. Over his time in Alaska Chris' hunting skills grow greatly.
2. Chris' sees all life as precious and becomes very upset when he kills a moose and wasn't able to fix the meat before it became contaminated .
3. Chris tries to head back but he can't cross the same river he had before because now the river is very deep and wide and uncrossable.
4. Chris ended up dying because he mistakenly eat one plant thinking it was another which caused him to starve and die.
5. If Chris had the right maps he may have been able to survive.

1. Why is it that even though Chris was only 6 miles from some other cabins that no one noticed he was staying in the bus?
2. How come Chris didn't walk up and down the bank to try and find a easier part of the river to cross?
3. Why didn't Chris take supplies and things from his acquaintances when they offered them. The supplies may have been able to keep him alive a bit longer.
4. Why now are there being som many words being underlined in the story?

1. These last pages went into detail about the last few days of Chris and how he died from poisoning and some of the other things he was eating to stay alive and his beautiful book collection.

1. For the most part Chris' parents seemed to think if they spoiled him he would gain respect for them.
2. Chris' parents love for him really shown through after they dissappeared.
3. Chris' death even changed the diets of his family members.
4. Both Krakauer and Chris seemed to have the same love for Alaska.

1. The book is supposed to be about Chris but it seems as though the author has brought himself into the book more than chris. Why is this?
2. Why didn't Chris just live with his sister instead of goin off on the adventure he went on?
3. It seems like Chris likes human interaction but why does it seem he only uses his good personality to get a ride or a place to stay or some food?

1. In the 4th set of 40 pages the story returns to talking about Chris again. The author trys to explain Chris' death. Chris' sister is infromed of the brothers death an she breaksdown. and a few other basic things happened that were breifly answered but know being brought into more detail.

1. The news of Chris' death finally arrived to his parents but first police had to sort through countless numbers of useless tips to find useful ones from the people that helped Chris on his journey.


2. Chris' parents were absolutely torn that there son was dead.


3. Chris' parents admit to the fact that there was always high tension in the household due to things like divorce threats.


4. Chris gets his love of nature from his grandfather Loren.


5. Chris was a fan of volunteering at homeless shelters and spoke against racism and social injustice.

1. This third set of 40 pages mainly talked about what Chris' life was like at home and through high school and what his parents were like and their probeblems and his family. In these set of pages lay a lot of backround information.

1. Jack London is made out to be Chris' Favorite author because Chris is always mentioning him.
2. Everyone that Chris spends time with is changed in some way but in a good way.
3. Chris and his parents did not have that great of a relationship. They did not get along.
4. Chris strongly believed in purity and even though he liked women he would never do anything with them.
5. When people try to call Chris foolish Krakauer brings together evidence and begins to write an article that would proof Chris was not foolish.

1. Is Chris ever going to get to Alaska?
2. Will Chris Change his mind and actually date Tracy instead of just kind of leading her on?

1 Summary

1. Chris is in Las Vegas and works at a McDonalds. He then goes to the Slabs where he visits his friends Jan and Bob. Then a girl Tracey begins to fall for Chris but Chris thinks she is to young and deny's her but still treats her as a friend. Chris then leaves again and decides he needs to head back on the road to Alaska. Chris then meets an old man named Franz. The two become very good friends and develop a strong relation ship but Chris still will not just stay in one place and still heads out to Alaska. Chris' plan all along was to go to Alaska but then return to Carthage and write books about his adventures.

Into The Wild Movie Post

The way the book and the movie are told are a little different. Such as in the book it started with some moose hunters finding Chris' dead body but in the movie they do not show that they only mention it at the end with some other short messages at the end of the movie.



A majority of the shots in the scenes of the movie can be categorized based on what is in the frame.

• Human action or interaction with another person- usually a close-up shot or a medium ranged shot.


• Objects- usually a close-up or very close-up shot


• Nature- usually wide or establishing shot if it is a shot of the environment but if it is an animal that is in the frame it is usually a medium ranged shot.........also depending on the message trying to be sent about the environment the shot changes. For example when the film makers were showing the rapids in the colorado river the shot was very close up to show how dangerous the river is. Or like when Chris was in L.A. all of the shots of the surroundings were low angled or kind of awkward to show that the part of the city he was in was scary and that he did not like it.


• Interaction between the three above such as Human and nature interaction, all have a range of shots and can be anywhere from a close-up to a very far away bird's eye establishing shot.

The height of the shot changes all the time depending on what is trying to be portrayed in the frame. But, majority of the time the shots are at eye-level or medium height.

In the beginning of the movie it starts out with a quote.

Then as the scene is being set with a bunch of establishing shots and shots from inside a train there where quotes from what seemed to be letters Chris what written to people.

Throughout the movie there were alot of voice overs.

The voice overs were spoken by Chris and his sister.

While Chris was doing a voice over he was usually saying a quote or explaining what a quote ment to him or his life ideals or just sorta narrating his life.

While Chris' sister was doing her voice overs it was usually her talking about there parents and there childhood or explaining how and why she knew what he was doing also who Chris was as a person.

While Chris' sister talked there were a majority of the time(basically all of her voice overs from about the middle of the movie to the end) were flashbacks of their childhood.

Throughout the movie there were times when there were split screens showing the same thing at different angles or two different things at the same time. For example one time when the screen was split was when Chris was out on his adventure and the other half of the screen showed his parents going to visit him at college.

Basically every time the scene would change or sometimes during the scene there was always a shot of nature showing what was around Chris or what was near him. All of these nature scenes were beautiful and it kind of made you understand why it is Chris would want to be out in the wild rather than in the city.

Throughout the movie it was like there were two story's being told. It was the story about everything leading up to Chris getting to Alaska and then the last couple weeks of Chris' life on the bus in Alaska.

Almost all of the shots in the bus were close up shots at either a low angle or high angle.

Emile Hirsch(the guy who plays Chris) is left handed. I noticed while he was writing something in the movie. Im left handed to.

There was a cool shot the started out as an establishing shot but started traveling in a circle moving closer in on Chris until it was a close-up of Chris staring off into the alaskan mountain range and he was happy. I thought it was a pretty cool looking shot.

During one voice over the sister did there was a montage of all the people Chris had met on his journey then it changed to a shot of Chris walking away.

At the end while Chris is dieing. It starts with a Close up of Chris' face then changes to a first person veiw of the sky and there are clouds covering the sun then that and an imaginary scene of Chris and his parents reuniting and they look happy switch back and forth pretty quickly. then it goes to a shot of the clouds finally clearing away from the sun then it goes back to a close up shot of Chris' face and he is smiling and then dies. then the shot zooms very far out to a birds eye veiw establishing shot of the alaskan wilderness that Chris loved and spent his last few weeks in.

1. What happened in the first 40 pages of Into the Wild is that in the first of the pages are the finding of Chris McCandless' dead body. After that the story starts from the beginning of Chris' journey. They mention where chris is from and his graduation ceramony. Then it goes in to how chris left without letting anybody know he was leaving and then into his trip. Chris' first stop was the dessert where he got chaught in a flash flood and had to abandon his beloved car. Then Chris tried to kyak down a river to the ocean but just ended up in mexico and had to try and find a way to get back into the united states. And then at last Chris ended up hitch hiking back up to Las Vegas.

1. Andy had his sister Portia ask Sookie to help him prove that he didn't kill LaFayette.


2. Bill and Sookie were going to Dallas to find out what happened to a missing vampire.


3. There are special services that transport vampires safely on airplanes.


4. There is a vampire that caters to vampires that includes humans who voluteer to have their blood drank by the vampires to heavy bodygaurd protection so that the vampires cannot be harmed.


5. Vampire nests in major cities are larger than those that you would find in a normal town.

1. Bill and Sookie go to Dallas. At the Dallas Airport a fake priest tries to kidnap Sookie but is not successful. Then they head to the vampire hotel where they meet the ancient looking vampire Isabel. Then they went to the vampire leader of Dallas' nest. At Stan Davis' nest he informs Bill and Sookie on what they know about the missing vampire.
